So I applied for a loan through Capital One and they gave me an outrageous quote of 12%. I was talking with a dealer and am on the fence about whether I want to buy his car but he was able to get me an interest rate of 6.9% through a bank his dealership works through.
How can I get a comparable rate without going through a dealer?
Thanks
Good idea Judy, do you have any that you recommend?
Thanks Gary, I’ve been looking at credit unions and so far they all need you to be a member in order to qualify for an auto loan.
I’m Military in a Military town, I don’t trust any banks/credit unions in my area. Do you know of any that I could join without being local?

I can’t find my loan paperwork right now, and until now I have been carrying extremely ample coverage, but I just got a speeding ticket and now I can’t afford that coverage. I’m trying to get some other quotes but I’m not sure what I should be guestimating at. I’m with a Credit union if it matters, but I am guessing its pretty standard for these things?
“Full coverage” is a term that means absolutely nothing to me, when I am trying to get a quote there are a bunch of numbers. Which numbers for each category are considered “full” coverage?

My husband and I need to lower our monthly payments. We have no debt except a line of credit for $60,000 with the payment of $410 and two car loans both adding up to about $25,000 and the combined payment of $1050/mo. So, we are spending about $1400/month for these 3 things. If we got a loan for $110,000 and payed all these off, our payment at 6.6% would be around $700/month. Of course I would always pay more than that per month which would go to principle. Why isn’t this a good thing to do? I realize that getting a new car would add to our payments once again. So, that would not be smart. Other than that, is this a smart thing to do? It seems like it is, but then why don’t more people do this?

I live in Idaho. I have not yet payed off the auto loan so I’m required to have full coverage insurance. According to some people I am paying too much (about 700 for 6 months), as they are paying far less. I have geico, but from time to time I look around and get quotes, and it is always slightly higher than what I have now. However, that might be because I am opting for coverage I might not need.
So the question boils down to, what is the bare minimum requirements for “full coverage” auto insurance in Idaho?
